The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR is a newcomer to the Indian motorbike market. First showcase of this model happened in 2016 Auto Expo, and soon within few months the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR hit almost all major cities of India. The Cygnus Ray ZR is a successor to the predecessor Ray, the replacement is certainly worthy – anyone can tell that judging just by the exterior of this motorbike. Even underneath the shiny new face lift, a performance upgrade has been given to provide better riding experience. Scooters these days are mostly unisex, however the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR is mostly targeted towards the male population out there; youths would prefer the design language on this scooter more. The aesthetics might appeal people in their middle age as well, but the sharp and bold approach suits youth more.
Yamaha started their venture in India in collaboration with Mitsui back in 2008. There’s a production lineup of motorbikes and scooters for the Indian local market and also for exporting to the outside market. Initially this Japanese automotive company started with producing engines like outboard motors for boats, later on they focused on other motorized vehicles like ATVs, golf carts, multi-purpose engines, generators, snowmobiles, and water pumps and so on. The diversification of these engines started in the 80s for Yamaha Motor Company and as a result of that decision, we now get to see excellent motorbikes and scooters like the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR.
For people who are into motor sports – Yamaha offers great deals on sports bike production. Although the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR isn’t certainly what you would call a motor sports ready two-wheeler, but there are models like Fazer, R15 etc. in the Indian market at great price tags.
Features, Accessories and Specification
The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR might be a scooter, but it packs decent power underneath the shiny exterior. The engine is 113 cc, which is a pretty big in comparison to many other scooter models in the market. However, the engine has only 1 cylinder. The maximum power output this engine can reach is 7.10 bhp at 7,500 rpm and the maximum torque offering is 8.10 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The cylinder bore measure 50 mm. There’s only one spark plug. The engine is air cooled, and equipped with an automatic transmission system for easier riding.
There’s no disc brake equipped in any of the wheels. However, considering the acceleration and top speed of 80 kmph, a drum brake would be sufficient in providing stopping power. Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR has a 5.20 liters fuel tank and the rated fuel efficiency on this motorbike is 66 kmpl.
The instrument cluster looks like. The main speedometer gauge is analog, but the fuel gauge is digital. There’s no trip meter for advanced information on fuel consumption, last trip distance etc. However, the kick starter would certainly save hassle and energy every time the rider needs to start this scooter.
